A backflow prevention device is used to protect the potable water supply from contamination or pollution due to to backflow. Backflow is the unwanted flow of water in the reverse direction. In water supply systems, water is usually maintained at a significant pressure to enable water to flow. When pressure fails or is reduced, which can happen if a water main bursts or there is unexpectedly high demand on the water system, then such reduced pressure in the pipe may allow contaminated water from the ground, from storage or from other sources to be drawn up into the system. Backflow devices are required by law and because this device protects municipal water supply from possible contamination, most municipalities require annual backflow inspection to ensure the device is working properly. Aqua Turf Irrigation has a licensed plumber and a certified backflow tester on staff to make sure your backflow is working properly. We will also file all necessary paperwork with the town and water purveyor.
